"There simply was no magic in the method, no missing ingredient, no right way to do therapy." –Dr. Scott D. Miller

More to the story

Scott D. Miller was born in Glendora, California. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brigham Young University in 1982, followed by a master’s and PhD in counseling psychology from the University of Utah.

After completing his residency, Scott joined the renowned Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he led the Alcohol and Drug Treatment and Training Services from 1989 to 1993. He then worked with Problems to Solutions, an organization dedicated to supporting Milwaukee’s homeless and underserved populations.

Today, Dr. Miller is both a writer and a practicing therapist, often providing pro bono services to those in financial need. He is a co-founder of the International Center for Clinical Excellence, the largest global network of mental health professionals committed to advancing excellence in behavioral health.

Dr. Miller's work in psychotherapy led to the development of Feedback Informed Treatment—an approach designed to revitalize psychotherapy by harnessing the client's own powers of regeneration and enlisting the client's own perceptions. Scott's research on "deliberate practice" centers on the scientific study of  how therapists can achieve superior results for truly working on their craft.
